Girls Inc. of Jacksonville’s Give a Girl a Hand volunteer program has blossomed this season thanks to the support of our dedicated volunteers. This program allows our eager volunteers to use their talents and helping hearts to engage with our girls. Two of our volunteers that have reached out to our girls in fresh and creative ways are Sandy Rupp and Rick Cartlidge. While we have many amazing volunteers on board, Sandy and Rick have found a unique way to relate and inspire the girls through music and dance.
Sandy Rupp started volunteering with us at the start of the 2009-2010 school year. Sandy is a pre-school teacher during the day. She loves children and recently became a grandmother. Sandy comes to our after-school programs each Tuesday and relates to the girls through song and dance. She uses singing as a way to teach the girls about tough topics like feelings while reinforcing positive messages. Sandy truly is a joy to have volunteering with our girls.
Rick Cartlidge has his degree in elementary education. He has a passion for giving back to his community and loves volunteering for Girls Inc. Rick works full-time at “The Players Club” while continuing to volunteer at Girls Inc. He has donated his time, and musical talents, through various Girls Inc. activities and events including our Daddy Daughter Dance, sprucing up our Arlington Outreach Center, as well as being a guest speaker at our GIRLStart program. He enjoys using music to educate and inspire youth and is a valued member of our volunteer team.
Girls Inc. of Jacksonville would like to thank Sandy and Rick, as well as all of our fabulous volunteers that contribute to achieving our mission to inspire all girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold.
