Jahmelah is a native of Jacksonville, FL. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a minor in Education in 2012 from Florida A & M University. While in Tallahassee she began her experience working with children at the Capital Region YMCA where she worked with children ranging in ages 6 months to 14 years. She enjoyed the relationships she formed in such a positive and safe environment. Using her studies in psychology she became mentors to some youth by working with them academically, physically and mentally throughout the school year, after-school and on a daily basis in summer camps.
After graduating from FAMU she returned to Jacksonville where she began her employment with Girls Inc. of Jacksonville in 2013 as a substitute facilitator in the literacy program and also working in summer enrichment camps. She then became a part time literacy facilitator working with girls in grades K-3rd. She loved the experience she gained working in the literacy program for Girls Inc. for two years. She enjoyed working with the girls in an academic environment as well as becoming a mentor and role model for the girls to look up to. She then moved to the administration side of the organization becoming the assistant to the director of operations.
While working in administration she assists in all phases of the daily operation to include data entry, administrative responsibilities, event planning of fundraising events, and other aspects of development. She enjoys working inside the brain of a non-profit organization while still being able to have a positive influence and relationship with the Girls Inc. girls.”
