Jacksonville, Fla. Dec. 22 – Girls Inc. of Jacksonville (GIJ) has been awarded a grant from The Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation to support SAT and ACT preparation for girls in GIJ’s new Project Accelerate Program. GIJ will receive $25,000. 

Project Accelerate is a post-secondary success and readiness program that puts an emphasis on college preparation, work-force development, and leadership development with opportunities and support for employment, quality internships as well as entrepreneurial endeavors. 

GIJ will use this investment to support the college readiness aspect of Project Accelerate. As part of the college readiness component, program participants receive weekly SAT and ACT college test preparation lessons and support. 

The SAT and ACT preparation program, with the support of the recently awarded Cornelia T. Bailey Grant will prepare a cohort of 10 girls maximum each month for college admissions testing during the fall, spring and summer sessions of Girls Inc. High School Programming. Funding will help cover the cost of testing fees and materials that participants cannot afford on their own due to economic barriers.

For the past three years, the SAT and ACT Bootcamp has been led by a certified teacher who is a Girls Inc. of Jacksonville facilitator, SAT Test prep. instructor and administrator.
