Lavender is an Alaskan native. She grew up splitting her time between Telluride Colorado and Kalgin Island Alaska. Her family ran a small salmon set net fishing operation during her summers in Alaska until 2001. She has a real passion for nature and exploring. Her love for travel and experiencing new cultures and adventures has allotted her to ability to have a broad range of cultural influence.
Lavender received her Bachelors of Design and Merchandising from AIU in Los Angeles in 2002. In 2004 she moved to Jacksonville Florida to be closer to her brother. The first 7 years in Jacksonville, Lavender worked as the executive chef of The Grape. She utilized her culinary skills to create a Mediterranean inspired menu with multiple private 7 course wine dinners throughout the year. Although cooking will always be a passion of Lavenders she felt unfulfilled in her career.
Through mutual friends she discovered Girls Inc. She was inspired by their mission and determined to join their small Jacksonville team. She wanted to give students with similar challenges as she had growing up more opportunities. Finding a program with a holistic approach to empowering and inspiring girls was just what she was looking for. She returned to college to pursue her masters in social work while worked as an after school facilitator for their GirlSMART literacy based program. She then took over as Program Director after a year and a half of facilitating. In her six years working for Girls Inc she has worked with staff to ensure mission alignment with the guidance of her new leadership she was able to ensure services for students K-8th. In 2014 she worked with staff to completely redevelop summer camp to combat the summer learning loss experienced by many girls. Lavender’s passion for our mission is fueled by her upbringing and the desire to instill STRONG, SMART and BOLD qualities in every girl.
